Oak or Querucs Bonsai
Oaks make beautiful, stately bonsai with their heavy trunks and heavy, gnarled branches. The best species of Oak to use for bonsai are the smaller leaved varieties, the QUERCUS agrifolia or, my personal favorite, QUERCUS virginiana; the southern, live oak.
Oaks are members of the Evergreen family and they are DECIDUOUS.
Oaks may be grown from seeds or cuttings. In the southern United States we would certainly prefer to use cuttings. Oaks should be pruned before the spring growth.
Oaks are best suited for formal upright, multi-trunk, and forest bonsai styles.
